Man to be charged with murder after death of woman at Maxwell Food Centre

SINGAPORE: A 41-year-old man has been arrested and will be charged with murder after a 48-year-old woman died at Maxwell Food Centre, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on Saturday (Sep 7).
“On Sep 7, 2024, at 1.36am, the man was arrested at Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre after he informed officers there that he had stabbed a woman,” SPF said in a news release.
“Upon receiving the information, police officers were dispatched to a food centre along Kadayanallur Street, and found the 48-year-old woman lying motionless.
“She was subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics at (the) scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties are known to each other.”
The man will be charged in court with murder on Sunday and faces the death penalty if he is found guilty.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Maxwell Food Centre is located at 1 Kadayanallur Street.
CNA understands that the incident involved the hawker stall Dao Xiang Ju.
Checks by CNA on Saturday afternoon found that the stall was shuttered, with food items such as eggs left on the table in front of the unit.
A photographer and camera crew were also on the scene.
There was no cordon around the area and it appeared to be business as usual at the popular food centre.
